This Privacy Policy covers the data collection and usage for MathType users, and it is an addendum of the general Privacy Policy (https://www.wiris.com/en/privacy-policy) for users of any product or service from Maths for More S.L. The general Privacy Policy still applies to MathType users.
What information we collect
We collect slightly different information depending on the component being used.
MathType 7 for Windows and Mac
- IP of the computer executing the application.
- The version of the application, including the language and operating system.
- Product key of the application.
- Name and email address of the user. The user or administrator may or may not give this information.
- Usage statistics.
MathType for LMS and Integrations
- IP of the computer executing the application.
- Referrer URL: the address of the web page that loads MathType.
- Equations being edited or rendered.
- Handwriting strokes of the equations.
- Usage statistics.
- Operating system.
- Browser.
- When integrated in an editor, editor used.
- Configured language on the editor.
MathType Integrations on premises
- IP of the computer hosting the MathType server components.
- Product key of the application.
- Usage statistics.
- Operating system.
- Browser.
- When integrated in an editor, editor used.
- Configured language on the editor.
MathType for Google Workspace
- IP of the computer executing the application.
- Referrer URL: the address of the web page that loads MathType.
- Equations being edited or rendered.
- Handwriting strokes of the equations.
- Usage statistics.
- User’s email address and basic profile data (name, profile picture): See below.
We need your email address for license control. Additionally, we also collect your email address so we can create Facebook Custom Audiences for marketing purposes. You won’t receive any of these communications, as they are dedicated to new potential customers. If you are not happy sharing your email address with us for this purpose, send us an email to privacy@wiris.com and we won’t use it from then on.
When installing the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace the user will be prompted with a dialog asking access to a series of permissions in order to continue the installation.
To use MathType in Google you will need to login into a Google account that has an associated MathType license or is a beneficiary of one. This login will securely provide our servers with the information needed to authenticate you and check your license status.
The first time you log in to our addon, you’ll be asked for permissions for keeping you updated with WIRIS products news through email. Only if you explicitly tick the checkbox, we will use your email address to send you commercial emails.
This addendum details what and how these permissions are used within the add-on.
Permissions requested on installation
The permissions requested are the most restrictive ones allowed by Google that also allow the add-on to work. They are the following:

The above are only used when the user explicitly interacts with the add-on menu by selecting one of the options or with the dialog opened by it where the MathType editor is displayed.
Other data used
The following data is available to every add-on:

When installing the MathType add-in from the Office Store a series of permissions used by the add-in are displayed.
This addendum details what and how these permissions are used within the add-in.

The following data isn’t mentioned in the store page but included here for completeness. It is available to every add-in.

- For MathType for LMS and MathType Integrations site installations, we do not have means to personally identify our end users. We just identify the institution that owns the license.
- For MathType for Office Tools licenses we validate users through their email address and PK.
How we use the information we collect
- We use the information in order to continuously improve our products. We find bugs thanks to this information, and it allows us to understand how people are using our products so we can improve their experience and prioritize developments.
- We use the information in order to help you fix any issue integrating your products. For example we may find bad requests to our servers and with this information give better support to your engineering teams.
- We use the information to prevent abuse of the license. We check that the amount of usage is coherent with the purchased license terms.
- We use the contact information of license owners to keep them updated with news about our products and commercial information about similar products from our company which they may be interested in. Every message has a link to opt out of the newsletter.
- We use MT for Google addon users’ email addresses to create Facebook Custom Audiences for marketing purposes. As an addon user you won’t receive any of these communications, as they are dedicated to new potential customers. If you are not happy sharing your email address with us for this purpose, send us an email to privacy@wiris.com and we won’t use it from then on.

When you use our products, we keep the data we collect in our data hosting providers, Amazon and Google.
Amendments to this Privacy Policy
Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We expect most such changes to be minor, but there may be changes that are more significant. We will post those changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will also provide a more prominent notice or inform you by email. Each version will be noted at the top of the page.
